World Mental Health Day

October 10th  is World Mental Health Day!

🌍What Is World Mental Health Day 2025? 🌍

World Mental Health Day is a day of awareness, education, and advocacy dedicated to mental health on a global level. World Mental Health Day has the potential to break the stigma around mental illness, promote and widen access to mental health support for all, as well as remind people that mental health is just as important as physical health.

Why It Matters—Especially for BIPOC Communities

Many Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) individuals face cultural stigma, a lack of representation, and barriers to care when it comes to mental health. We're often told to be strong, silent, or to “pray it away.” But mental health challenges don’t discriminate—and neither should healing.

World Mental Health Day reminds us that:

  • It’s OK to ask for help

  • You don’t have to suffer in silence

  • There is strength in vulnerability

  • Healing should be culturally safe, accessible, and affirming

How to Incorporate Mental Health Into Your Daily Life

You don’t need a perfect morning routine or expensive self-care to support your mental health. Start small. Start real. Here’s how:

Check In With Yourself Daily

1) How am I feeling—really?

2) What do I need today: rest, connection, silence, movement?

3) Take 2–5 minutes in the morning or night to pause and reflect.

Set Digital Boundaries

Protect your peace:

  • Limit doomscrolling or exposure to triggering content.

  • Unfollow accounts that make you feel inadequate.

  • Schedule intentional phone-free time every day.

Connect with Supportive People

Healing happens in the community.

  • Call a friend who lifts you up.

  • Join a support group or safe space.

  • Talk to a therapist who understands your cultural experience.

Speak Kindly to Yourself

Many of us have an inner critic shaped by generational messages or trauma.
Practice affirmations like:

“I am allowed to rest.”
“My emotions are valid.”
“Healing is possible for me.”

Start a Mental Health Ritual

This could be:

  • 5-minute journaling in the morning

  • A grounding breath at lunch

  • Lighting a candle and reflecting before bed

Rituals help anchor us in safety and self-connection.

You don’t need to wait for a crisis to care for your mental health.
Every breath, every boundary, every act of self-compassion is part of your healing journey.

This World Mental Health Day, give yourself permission to slow down, reach out, reflect,
and remember: you are not alone
